Meet Rosemary Field, chemist turned private chef, in this fresh and funny romantic mystery from a USA Today bestseller.
The day I become a murder suspect starts like any other. I'm busy prepping for a dinner party, regretting my life choices, and putting up with my diva movie star boss's antics.
But when said miserable movie star dies from an allergic reaction after eating my cooking, the police want to charge me and close the case.
To clear my reputation and stay out of prison, I have to find the real murderer. The suspect list is long (did I mention she was a rotten person?) and includes a womanizing race car driver; a powerful music producer; Hollywood's hottest leading man; and, oh yeah, Felix, the dead woman's gorgeous stepson--which gets a bit awkward when he and I start dating.
Things go from bad to worse when Felix nearly dies from food poisoning after I make him a romantic dinner.
Now I'm unhappily single, unemployed, and once again on the wrong side of the LAPD.
Salvaging an oversalted sauce? No problem. Saving my bacon while a ruggedly handsome homicide detective investigates me for murder? We'll see ...
Rosemary Gravy A We Sisters Three Mystery Book 1 edition by Melissa F Miller Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
This was a fantastic start to a new series. Rosemary, Sage, and Thyme were three sisters whose parents bailed out on their failing business after deeding it over to their daughters. Wanting to keep it in the family, the three girls are working to pay off the debt, even though it's a slow process. For Rosemary that means giving up her job as a scientist to become the highly paid cook of a movie star in Hollywood. When the woman is murdered after ingesting nuts, something she's seriously allergic to, suspicion falls on Rosemary. However, there's also her husband, who's keeping a secret he doesn't want exposed, the man's son and victim's stepson, who had very little love for his stepmother, and the housekeeper, whom the murdered star treated like dirt beneath her feet. Plenty of twists and turns as two detectives try to catch a killer. And one of those detectives is showing quite a bit of interest in Rosemary. A really enjoyable read that does a fairly good job of keeping things stirred up while keeping you guessing as to who done it! There were several times I found myself chuckling at Rosemary, who had a sarcastic sense of humor. I can tell I'm going to like her sisters as well. I would certainly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of a good, clean mystery or a fan of Ms. Miller. I happen to be both.Product details

Rosemary Gravy A We Sisters Three Mystery Book 1 edition by Melissa F Miller Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Rosemary Fields is one of three sisters. The other two are name Sage and Thyme but their stories are for another time. In this first of at least 3 mysteries, Rosemary finds herself accused of murder by gravy. We follow her trying to prove her innocence while dealing with the strange family she was working as a chef. The plot, like gravy, thickens as her allegiances get confusing the deeper one gets into the book. You will relish this most recent offering by Melissa Miller. All her works deserve to be read.
Fast-paced light mystery. Rosemary is a former chemist, forced to take a job as a holistic chef for a famous actress for financial reasons. After one of Rosemary's dinners, the actress turns up dead due to food poisoning, and Rosemary becomes a suspect.
In an effort to find the truth, Rosemary teams up with the actresses' hottie stepson, and things progress from there.
The plot unravels at a good pace, there isn't anything overly complicated or any huge twists. I guessed the culprit pretty early (wasn't sure about the why,) but it didn't ruin the book because part of the fun is getting to know Rosemary and learn her story. In fact, I would have liked it if the author had focused even a little more on Rosemary and her sisters. It is already a minor side story in terms of their predicament, and it would have been nice to see that story play out more, as well. I'm assuming that may happen in the stories about the other sisters. If not, I think she could almost do a stand alone on them trying to take over the parents spa. I'm curious to know what will happen, or if we hear again from the parents.
The mystery itself is not spectacular, and we only get a surface feel for the other characters, but they are all either somewhat likable, or manage not to be too annoying. Rosemary has a decent head on her shoulders and is relatable. It's a decent read if you don't want anything heavy.
I started to read this but found some of the characters distasteful so I deleted the book. Not into books with immoral characters or situations.
Disclaimer I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It is definitely a change of pace from Melissa's legal thrillers and I have to say I enjoyed it very much. This is the first book in a new series and I am looking forward to reading the upcoming books as well.
Rosemary, Sage and Thyme are three sisters who are in a bit of a financial mess left behind by their parents. In order to help dig out from under a looming money disaster, Rosemary is working as a personal chef to a high-maintenance Hollywood star. When her employer is found dead, Rosemary gets caught up in a murder mystery and becomes the number one suspect. The story progresses as she works to clear her name while falling under the romantic spell of the victim's stepson. A handsome detective also shows an interest in her which makes for a fun twist to the story.
Rosemary has a rather "snarky" attitude at times which I found to be amusing and a bit endearing. This story has enough plot twists to keep your interest and is quite an enjoyable read. I enjoy mysteries and would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a mystery with a bit of a comedic twist.
There was entirely too much sexual content for my taste. Though there wasn't out and out descriptions of sexual activity carried to its conclusion, there was enough description of sexual thoughts and feelings to make me uncomfortable. There wouldn't have been much of a plot without all this reference to lustful thinking and activity. This book just wasn't my cup of tea (or gravy as the case may be).
I thought this was a suspense, crime mystery. In that context, the preoccupation with sexual innuendo is pretty ridiculous.
Someone charged with murder would most definitely not be obsessing over the men with whom she came into contact.
